Sugaring is becoming very popular and is very similar to using wax. The sugaring process has been used for literally centuries throughout the world. A thick sugary substance similar to caramel is spread on the skin in the opposite direction of hair growth. The hair becomes embedded in the caramel. Then the compound is removed quickly in the direction of the hair growth, pulling the hairs out of the follicles. The advantage of this method over traditional waxing is the clean up and the fact that the sugar adheres to the hair only thus reducing pain. The sugar substance is water-soluble and can be removed easier than wax by rinsing with water.
Wax is warmed and spread over the area in the direction the hair grows. As the wax cools, the hair becomes embedded in wax. Strips of cloth are applied over the wax. The wax strip is then quickly removed by pulling in the opposite direction the hair is growing This technique pulls the hairs out of the follicles.
- Hair needs to be at least 1/8 inch long for waxing (about 2 to 3 weeks growth).
- For your 1st bikini / brazilian wax do trim a bit if you have long hair. Long hairs make the estheticians job a little harder
and may give you more discomfort.
- Do NOT tan 24 hours before or after waxing.
- No exercise 24 hours after bikini, brazilian, chest or back wax.
- If you want less pain do not wait longer than 4 to 6 weeks between waxing appointments or shave between appointments.
- Less time between waxing means the hairs will be shorter, thinner and sparser because they are not fully matured.
This will give you a less discomfort during the waxing.
- For facial waxing, please let us know if you are using any acne medications. I do not recommend waxing for clients on
Accutain.
- Taking Advil before waxing might help reduce pain or inflammation.
- Most hair will grow back from 10 days to 3 weeks, depending on the individual.
- If this is your first waxing, please allow a few days before the big event (Wedding).
